about judge mctorry 

Judge Kimberly McTorry is a Felony Associate Judge in Harris County, Houston, Texas. She is committed to following the law to ensure that public safety and due process co-exist. 

 

Judge McTorry was raised in Nashville, Tennessee where her family instilled in her the importance of hard work, gratitude, and treating people with dignity and respect. She became the first in her family to go to college, attending Western Kentucky University.

 

True to her spirit of ingenuity, she attended Belmont University College of Law in Nashville, Tennessee where she was a member of the Inaugural Class. While in law school Judge McTorry was the president and  founder of the Women’s Law Student Organization and the Student Volunteer Bureau. Additionally, Judge McTorry served as a Senior Law Review Editor for the Southern Journal of Policy and Justice and a contributing author for the Tennessee Bar Association's Law Launch Project.

She was recognized for her dedication to the community by being invited as a fellow of the Tennessee Bar Association’s Diversity Leadership Institute. Her experience in the court room began in law school as a charter member of Belmont Law’s nationally ranked Board of Advocates.

 

Upon graduating law school Judge McTorry was one of ten selected from over 200 applicants to work as Prosecutor at the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. While at the DA’s office she handled thousands of felony and misdemeanor cases, and even served in the Special Crimes Unit as an elite member of the Human Trafficking Division and Sex Crimes Division. After leaving the Harris County District Attorneys, she managed McTorry Law, PLLC, where she fought tirelessly to protect the constitutional rights of the accused. Her unique experience of seeing the criminal justice system from all perspectives-prosecution and defense affords her a fair and balanced perspective. 

Outside of the courtroom Judge McTorry enjoys spending time with her husband and three children. She enjoys serving her community and is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc among other organizations.
